Today we celebrate the men and women who sacrificed to serve our country. We owe much of our freedom to the brave men and women in uniform. The suffering (mental, financial, physical, and relational) many have endured in order to defend our rights as American citizens is priceless.

Veteran’s Day, also known as Armistice Day, was declared an official federal holiday by president Woodrow Wilson on November 11, 1919. It marked the day the conflicts of World War I ended. On November 11, on the 11th month, at the 11th hour the nation stops to remember the sacrifice of our military personnel.

This video explains Veteran’s Day in a way that even children can understand:

What Christians Can Learn From Our Veterans

Here’s a small list of things Veteran’s are known for:

  1. Love for family and country
  2. A mentality of sacrifice and honor
  3. Respect for authority and common purpose
  4. Focus toward accomplishing the mission they were given
  5. The idea that values must be passed on to the next generation

Here’s a small list Christians can correlate to:

  1. Ephesians 5:25-33; 6:1-4 – we are called to love the family as spouses love each other, children honor their parents, and parents respect their children.
  2. 1 John 3:16 – we are called to lay down our lives for others as Christ laid down his life for us.
  3. 1 Timothy 1:1-4 – we are called to respect our government authorities and pray for their salvation and welfare. Our common purpose is established by our mission, which is to make disciples of all nations (Matt 28:16-20; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:45-49; John 20:19-23; Acts1:6-8).
  4. Jesus commissioned his disciples to share the gospel to all nations. Furthermore, Jesus said, “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come” (Matthew 24:14). Until the end comes, we must continue to proclaim the gospel to all nations.
  5. We too are to pass on our biblical values to the next generation. The Shema of Deuteronomy 6:4-9, is an example of how we should teach our children and future generations to love the Lord.

Thank You Veteran’s!

In times when our military is greatly disrespected, we must not forget to celebrate our fellow citizens who sacrificed by serving in our military. To those who served in our military (and those who still do), my sincere thanks and appreciation! Today we honor your for your honorable service to our country!

I owe a great of gratitude to so many members of my family, dear friends, and several acquaintances. You are indeed heroes and true servants! May the Lord bless you and May the Lord bless the United States of America!
