Is your life fully consecrated to Christ? Is God seated at the throne of your worship life? Are you casting down your idols and consecrating yourself to Jesus? Is your heart fully His? Are you seeking to honor the Lord every moment of the day as much as you are able to? Is your voice (words of your mouth) under the kingship of Christ? Are you honoring God with your possessions? Is God the main object of your love? Well … these are questions I have pondered about lately. If you are a Christ follower, you might want to also meditate on them.
These questions were fueled by my reflections on the hymn Frances Ridley Havergal composed titled “Take My Life and Let it Be.” Below I offer you the words of this powerful hymn and some verses for reflection:
Take my life, and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee;
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise.
Therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your spiritual worship – Romans 12:1
Take my hands, and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love;
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee,
Swift and beautiful for Thee.
How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns” – Isaiah 52:7
Take my voice, and let me sing
Always, only, for my King;
Take my lips, and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee,
Filled with messages from Thee.
I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live – Psalm 104:33
Take my silver and my gold;
Not a mite would I withhold;
Take my intellect, and use
Every power as Thou shalt choose,
Every power as Thou shalt choose.
Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine. Proverbs 3:9–10
Take my will, and make it Thine;
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart; it is Thine own;
It shall be Thy royal throne,
It shall be Thy royal throne.
“This, then, is how you should pray: “ ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:9–10
Take my love; my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure-store.
Take myself, and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee,
Ever, only, all for Thee.
And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul – Deuteronomy 10:12
