SEASON ONE SYNOPSIS

I have personally chosen the Heidelberg Catechism because of its theological content and practical wisdom. I have acquired a copy of the 450th Anniversary Edition of the Catechism, which has become the sole source for my commentary. You can find it here: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/20098532-the-heidelberg-catechism-450th-anniversary-edition

A few characteristics of the Heidelberg Catechism include: 1) a simplistic but profound summary of Scriptural doctrinal teaching, 2) a tool to be used for training youth and adults alike, 3) the provision of a unified theology, 4) training and instruction for the church. Like any catechism, it follows a question-and-answer format emphasizing basic biblical doctrines. It is divided into 52 sections for each Lord’s Day (Sunday) of the year.

BUT WHY SHOULD YOU LEARN FROM IT? The answer: Because much of Christian doctrine has been muddled, diminished, and forgotten by Christians. Learning from the Heidelberg Catechism will certainly enrich your faith, inform your doctrine, and grow you in your love for God and his Word. Therefore, I invite you to subscribe to my podcast as we both learn together how to better love and walk with Christ by exploring the essentials of the Christian faith!

SEASON TWO SYNOPSIS

Throughout season 2 of the Preacher’s Devo Podcast I will offer you an analysis of 40 of the top Christian hymns of all times. The composition of these hymns ranges from the 17’s to modern day. Though considered old by many today, such hymns are still sung and played in many churches around the globe and are part of the liturgy of more traditional congregations.

Hymns such as:

  1. Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!
  2. To God Be the Glory
  3. All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name
  4. How Great Thou Art
  5. Silent Night, Holy Night
  6. Great Is Thy Faithfulness

… will be explored in our second season of the Preacher’s Devo Podcast.

The podcast is set up in the following way:

  1. Each episode will be dedicated to only one hymn
  2. We will explore its title, author, context, and theology
  3. We will seek to learn what theology and doctrine it proposes and clarify what certain words that are used mean in their context.

There are three new fun things I am adding to this season of the Preacher’s Devo Podcast:

  1. At the end of our analysis I will offer up a Biblical Hebrew and a Greek word for your memorization. Why? Because it’s fun! And because it may deepen your desire to learn the Biblical languages or at least give you a taste of it!
  2. At the end of the podcast I will play an audio of the hymn we explored together. That way you can listen to it, learn it, and worship.
  3. I plan to bring in some guests at times for a more interactive time together with you.

I hope you’ll enjoy each of episode. And be blessed by it!
